MASC Speech Processing for Automatic Recognition Technology (SPART^®), unlike other speech technologies such as AMR, G.729, G.723.1 etc., is a variable bit rate algorithm. This means that based on the speech energy present in any speech sample, MASC automatically and dynamically adjusts its processing while maintaining high voice quality. Any normal speech sample by nature is lumpy, implying that speech energy is inconsistent over the entire speech sample. MASC processes those parts of the speech sample which contain background noises/pops or glitches allocating very few bits, while processing sections of fuller speech to preserve the greatest quality. MASC's variable bit rate voice processing ensures that the compressed speech sample is not only as small as possible, but also retains high perceptual quality making it highly suitable for ASR engines.
